What is PM USP Yojna?

Regardless of their category of caste or religion any student having a family income under and up to Rs 4.5 lakh (Rs. 8 Lakh for J&K, Laddakh) is eligible for this scheme. PM USP as its name suggests, it has been launched for the Ucchatar Shiksha i.e for Higher Education support. A student who wants to apply for this scheme should pursue regular degree courses.

A student should qualify for admission in the institute by appearing in the Entrance exams and not by management quota. Like

PM USP Yojna is actually an umbrella scheme under which 3 schemes are running.

  1. Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship (CSSS) for College and University students
  2. Special Scholarship Scheme for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh
  3. Central Sector Interest Subsidy Scheme (CSIS) and Credit Guarantee Fund Scheme for Education Loan (CGFSEL).

PM USP Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students:

This is a merit cum means scholarship scheme. Eligible candidates have to apply for this scheme, and then the department of higher education draws a merit list of the candidates who are selected for the scheme. This scheme has a ratio in gender base of 50:50. Also this scheme has a ratio in the stream of 3:1:1 for Science: Commerce: Humanities and a category SC 15%, ST 7.5% and OBC 27%. There is a 5% reservation for PwD candidates.

A maximum of 82,000 scholarship requests are accepted every year across the country. The applicant should pursue the graduate/ integrated post-graduate course in college or university or professional courses such as medical or engineering.

The applicant who gets selected for the scholarship will get 12,000/- Rs per annum at the Graduation level and Rs 20,000/- Rs per annum at the Post Graduation level. If the course period is 5 years then a candidate will get 12,000/- Rs per annum for the first 3 years and then 20,000/-Rs per annum for the next 2 years.

PM USP Special Scholarship Scheme for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh:

Country side cuate e1662795000818This scheme is specially designed for students who belong to the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh regions. A total of 5000 new scholarship applications are accepted every year under this scheme which is divided into 3 categories 2070 applications for General Degree courses, 2830 applications for Professional /Engineering Courses and 100 applications for Medical Courses.

A student for a General degree will get Rs 30,000/- per annum or an Academic Fee whichever is less. A student for Professional courses like engineering, Nursing, Pharmacy, and B.Arch will get Rs 1.25 lakh per annum or an Academic fee whichever is less. And a student who gets selected for medical courses like MBBS, BDS, BAMS, and BHMS will get Rs 3 Lakh per annum or Academic fees whichever is less. 

Besides this, all the candidates will get up to Rs 1 Lakh per year for hostel fees, mess fees and other education-related expenses.

PM USP Central Sector Interest Subsidy Scheme and Credit Guarantee Fund Scheme for Education Loan:

Consultative sales broCentral Sector Interest Subsidy Scheme (CSISS) is run by the Ministry of Education. Under this scheme, students who have taken an education loan from the scheduled bank for pursuing a technical or professional course and whose family income is under 4.5 Lakh will get the interest subsidy for the education loan i.e for the period of education plus one year. A candidate will get an interest subsidy for a loan of up to Rs. 10 lakh.

Credit Guarantee Fund Scheme (CGFS) is an education loan scheme for all student who wants to pursue higher education will get a loan of up to 7.5 lakh without any third-party guarantee and collateral security. 

PM USP Yojna Eligibility:

PM USP Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students:

 A student should have completed their class 12th in the last academic year and be in the top 20 per cent of the students who have appeared on the same class 12th board exam. A student should also admit themself to the regular graduation course.  A candidate should pursue a regular degree course to avail of this facility, correspondence or distance mode or diploma course is not eligible for this scheme. A candidate has to submit the income certificate of parent/family, an income limit of Rs 4.5 lakh per annum is eligible for the scheme.

For continuation of the scheme, a candidate should get at least 50% marks in the annual examination  

PM USP Special Scholarship Scheme for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh:

A candidate who belongs to the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh are only eligible for this scheme.  A candidate should have passed their 12th exam from a JKBOSE or CBSE-affiliated school which are located in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladhak. The family income of the candidate should be Rs 8 Lakh or less. A candidate should not be getting the benefits of any other scholarship scheme. 

PM USP Central Sector Interest Subsidy Scheme and Credit Guarantee Fund Scheme for Education Loan:

A student who wants to pursue higher education in a technical or medical course on a regular basis can apply for an education loan. For availing of interest subsidy benefits candidates have to submit an income certificate of up to Rs 4.50 lakh per annum.

How to Apply to PM USP Yojna?

PM USP Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students:

New entries amico e1662795180299The candidate has to apply online for this scheme. And the verification of documents like caste certificates, and qualification certificates, are done through DIGILOCKER.

The details of opening and closing of the application window will be provided on the National Scholarship Portal.   

The verification of documents and applications is done at two levels one at the Institute level and another at the State Higher education department. 

PM USP Special Scholarship Scheme for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh:

To Apply for PM USP SS Scheme, eligible candidates have to register themselves on the AICTE portal. The candidate will have to fill in all the details in the registration form. The candidate will have to upload the required document on the portal, and then will have to get it verified at the nearest facilitation centre.

 After successful submission of the application candidate will have to attain an online counselling session where the candidate will be allocated a seat and admission will be confirmed. After joining the college, AICTE will disburse the academic fee to the institution’s account and the maintenance allowance in the candidate’s account.  

PM USP Central Sector Interest Subsidy Scheme and Credit Guarantee Fund Scheme for Education Loan:

The student who wants to apply for an education loan will have to register themselves on the Vidya Lakshmi portal. This portal has been created especially for student across the country who wants to avail of the loan facility for their education.
