What is IMU CET Exam?

To encourage and clear the way for training, research and studies in the Maritime the Central Government has established the INDIAN MARITIME UNIVERSITY which concentrates on studies of maritime history, maritime laws, security, rescue and oceanography.

Indian Maritime University has its Head Quarter at its Chennai Campus. IMU offers various undergraduate courses on its campus and in its affiliate institutes. The well-known courses of IMU are B.E/B.Tech in Marine Engineering, B.E/B.Tech in Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering and B.Sc in Nautical Science. All the candidates seeking admission in the above courses need to appear in the IMU CET exam and according to their ranking, the college will be allotted to them.

The ranking of this exam is also required for admission to the DGS ( Directorate of Shipping ) approved Maritime Training Institute. All this institute offers various technical and non-technical courses regarding maritime but IMU CET exam is necessary for taking admission to the technical courses. IMU CET exam is a national-level exam. 

What is IMU CET Exam eligibility?

For taking admission to  B.E/B.Tech Marine Engineering / Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering. B.Sc Nautical Science a candidate should get a minimum of 60 % aggregated marks in the PCM group and 50 % marks in the English language in the 10th and 12th examinations.

When IMU CET Exam Held?

Registration for the IMU CET exam starts generally in the month of march every year. Eligible students can enrol themself for the exam once the registration starts. The registration window remains open up for a month. The exam is held up by IMU in the month of June and within a month a result is declared.imu cet exam

After declaring a result candidate gets their ranking and they can attain counselling round where they will be allotted their preferential institute. 

How to Apply for IMU CET Exam?

For applying IMU CET exam applicants have to visit the IMU website. Then the candidate has to register themself by furnishing all the information. The candidate has to upload their scanned photo and signature for registration.

While entering the information candidate can select their favourable city for the exam, there are around 84 cities available for the exam from all over the country.

After filling in the complete information a candidate has to pay the registration fee. The fee has to pay by online method. The fee for the general candidate is Rs 1000/- and for other candidates is Rs. 700/-. A candidate can download their Hall Ticket before the exam.

English – 25

General Knowledge – 25

General Aptitude – 25

Chemistry – 25

Mathematics – 50

Physics – 50

The total time provided for solving a paper is 3 hours.

One thing that aspirants should know is that the difficulty level of the IMU CET as compared to JEE and other state engineering exams is very low. One can easily get a good ranking and get allotted to a good IMU campus with minimum preparation time.

The questions in physics, chemistry and mathematics has been asked from the 11th and 12th ncert syllabus. With some good practice, one can easily solve these subjects in this exam.

In General Aptitude the basic question like work time, pattern type, blood relation, profit loss etc. has been asked. One can prepare it from any general Aptitude book.

In the English language subject questions from the passage, synonyms, antonyms and basic grammar can be asked.

General Knowledge paper has 25 questions and one can solve 18 to 20 questions easily with general awareness. Aspirants can prepare for general knowledge subject from various available books and websites.
