What is Pragati Scholarship?

pragati scholarshipAll India Council for Technical Education ie AICTE has implemented the Pragati Scholarship scheme for Girls who want to pursue their education in the technical field. Women can become more empowered with the help of Education, Knowledge and skills. To give young women an opportunity to develop their skills through technical education, AICTE came up with Pragati Scholarship Scheme with Moto “Empowering Women through Technical Education”.

Every year AICTE awards 5000 girls across the country with this scholarship to pursue the Degree level course which is approved by All India Technical Education. Each state has a separate quota for the scholarship which totals 5000. Besides these, all Union Territory and North-East states have up to 800 Pragati scholarships to award Girls students. 

The Girl student who gets selected for the Pragati Scholarship will get Rs. 50,000/- per year of their degree course towards the payment of college fee, purchase of computer, software, books and equipment etc. The student will not get an additional grant for paying hostel charges or medical charges. There will be no need to attach the documentary proof of expenses. The amount of the scholarship will be directly paid in the account of the student through Direct Beneficiary Transfer mode.  

What is the Eligibility to apply for Pragati Scholarship?

eligibility of pragati scholarshipA candidate should be a girl and admitted to the degree level course which is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education. The Institute to which a girl candidate has taken an admission should also have been approved by the All India Council for Technical Education.

A maximum of two girl candidates from a family are eligible for the Pragati Scholarship. From a family, if two girls already have availed of this scholarship then other girls students from the same family will not be eligible to apply for Pragati Scholarship.

The family income of a girl candidate who wants to apply for this scholarship should not be more than Rs. 8 Lakh per financial year. She has to submit a valid income certificate issued by State/UT government. 

The selection of eligible girl candidates for the Pragati Scholarship is will be carried out on the basis of the merit of the qualifying examination like JEE Mains, JEE ADVANCED for B.E/ B.Tech courses, IMU CET for courses at Indian Maritime University etc. And in case there is a tie in marks in the qualifying examination then the candidate who has higher marks in the class 10th examination will be eligible for the scholarship. And if class 10th marks do not break the ties then the girl of elder age will be selected for the Pragati scholarship. The gap period between the passing year of the qualifying examination and admission in the degree course should not be more than two years.

The selected girl candidate for the Pragati scholarship will have to renew their scholarship every year by submitting the passing mark sheet on the National Scholarship portal. If a student fails to pass the annual/semester exam then she would lose the benefit of the scholarship.

The Girl candidate who is selected for the scholarship should not be getting the benefit of any other scholarship or financial assistance from other sources. If it is found so then the scholarship of the candidate will be discontinued and the amount which is disbursed to the account of the student will have to be refunded to the AICTE. 

How to Apply for Pragati Scholarship?

pragati scholarshipIf a candidate fulfils all the required eligibility norms then they will have to apply for the Pragati Scholarship online on the National Scholarship Portal. Generally every year the window of the application is kept open until October. The student will have to apply for the scholarship after their confirmation of admission to the institute. 

After the submission of the application by the candidate, the institute where the candidate is admitted will have to verify the application online then it will be forwarded to the Department of Technical Education of the respective State/UT for further procedure.
