What is INSPIRE Scholarship?
INSPIRE is the abstract for INnovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired REsearch. This scholarship programme has been developed by the Department of Science & Technology to encourage the talented students of India to study science and become a scientist in their field. It has been designed so that a candidate selected for this scholarship will get financial assistance and much more. The motive of this scholarship is to attract young students to a career in research and innovation.
INSPIRE programme has three section
- INSPIRE SEATS (Scheme for early attraction of Talent) programme
- INSPIRE SHE ( Scholarship for Higher Education) programme
- INSPIRE AORC (Assured Opportunity for Research Careers) programme
INSPIRE SEATS: This program is focused to attract young students to study science by offering Rs. 10,000/- prize money to around 1 lakh students across the country in the age group 10 to 15 years who are in the class 6th to class 10th under its INSPIRE MANAK scheme. This programme also hosts summer camps for around 50 thousand science students who are in class 11th with the world-leading scientist to share the joy of innovation under its INSPIRE Internship scheme.
INSPIRE SHE: This programme is a scholarship for higher education and focuses to improve the enrollment rate of talented young students for higher education in the science-intensive programme by providing scholarships. This programme offers 10 thousand scholarships each year at 80 thousand rupees per year per candidate in the age group of 17-22 years to pursue undergraduate and graduate level education in science.
INSPIRE AORC: Assured Opportunity for Research Careers aims to fascinate, engage and promote talented young scientific human resources to strengthen the Research and development foundation. This programme offers 1000 scholarships each year for doctoral studies in basic and applied science including medical and engineering for the age group of 22-27 years. This scheme also has a faculty programme which offers the guaranteed opportunity for 1000 PhD candidates each year in the age range of 27-32 years, through the contract and permanent positions for 5 Years in the field of basic and applied sciences.

Eligibility for INSPIRE SEATS
INSPIRE MANAK Awards:
Any Indian individual student of class 6th to class 10th from all recognised schools, which may be aided or unaided can participate in this scheme.
INSPIRE Internship:
The students who were in the top one per cent in their class 10th board examination and are currently pursuing science in class 11th are eligible for INSPIRE Internship programme
Eligibility for INSPIRE SHE
Exemplary students who were in the top 1 per cent in their Class 12th board examination of any state/central education board and are currently pursuing B.Sc, integrated M.Sc in Natural and Basic science.
All those students who have secured top ranks within 10000 in JEE ADVANCED and NEET and are pursuing Natural and Basic Science courses in India.
All the students who were in the top 1 per cent of their class 12th exam in their board and are pursuing integrated Master’s course in Natural and Basic Science at IISER or NISER (One can seek admission to this institute by appearing in the NEST exam).
Those students who are the medallist of the International Olympiad, National Talent Search Examination or Jagdish Bose National Science Talent Search are also eligible for INSPIRE SHE scholarship for pursuing B.Sc/M.Sc in Natural Science.
Eligibility for INSPIRE AORC
INSPIRE FELLOWSHIP:
Students who obtained 1st Rank in any recognised university or academic institution excluding Autonomous institutions in India in the PG exam are eligible to apply for this scholarship. PG level exams can be from Basic/Applied Science, Engineering, Pharmacy, Agriculture Science or Veterinary Science. INSPIRE Scholars who have secured a minimum of 70 per cent aggregate marks in M.Sc are also eligible for this fellowship.
After the submission of the application, the subject special committee scrutinise all the application and finalise the candidature for fellowship.
INSPIRE FACULTY AWARD:
Any Indian citizen and people of Indian origin status with PhD in Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Pharmacy, Medicine and Agriculture-related subject from any recognised university in the world are eligible for the INSPIRE FACULTY Award.
How to Apply for INSPIRE Scholarship?
Application for INSPIRE MANAK: Applications for this scheme are submitted by the Headmaster or Principal of the school for 2 or 3 innovative ideas through INSPIRE portal. Interested candidates will have to be in touch with their concerned teacher for application submission.
Application for INSPIRE Internship: The student who wants to apply for this programme should have to register themselves on the INSPIRE portal. The student will require a valid email id for subsequent communication while registering and also candidate have to upload the documents like a photograph, caste certificate if belongs to a reserved class, Marksheets for educational qualification and an endorsement certificate from the Principal for pursuing science in class 11th.
Application for INSPIRE SHE Scholarship: The eligible candidates will have to register themself by entering their email id on INSPIRE portal. As there is scholarship money is awarded to the candidate they will need to upload the bank details on the website. After logging in the ‘Scholarship’ link will appear and the candidate can apply for this scholarship.
Application for INSPIRE FELLOWSHIP: The mode of Application is online and the candidate will have to apply on the INSPIRE portal.

Yes, You can get an INSPIRE Scholarship in a private collage if it has the approval of AICTE, UGC or NAAC.
The tenure of INSPIRE scholarship SHE is for 5 years or until the completion of the course.
The amount of INSPIRE scholarship SHE will be credited to the candidate’s SBI account.
