This exam is organised to facilitate the admission process in Law Universities which are associated with the Consortium of National Law University. When a candidate appears in this exam they get a ranking according to their performance in the exam. In the counselling session candidate selects their preference for Law University according to their ranking.

By CLAT score candidates can seek admission for BA LLB or B.Com LLB in the consortium university.

National Law Universities are established on the model of IITs and IIMs in India. There are about 22 National Law universities in the Consortium of National Law Universities.

CLAT Exam Eligibility :

Lawyer panaFor appearing in the CLAT exam there is no upper age limit for the candidate, so candidates of any age can give the test if they fulfil other requirements.

Candidates who have completed their 10+2 or equivalent exam or are appearing in this exam in the current year can also apply for the CLAT exam. 

A candidate should need a minimum of 45% aggregate marks in class 12 or equivalent exams for SC/ST candidates they should acquire 40% aggregate marks in class 12 or equivalent exams.

The candidates who are appearing in class 12 or equivalent exams in the current year should get minimum aggregate percentage marks in the class 12 exam for getting admission to Law University.

How to Apply for CLAT Exam?

To Apply for the CLAT exam you have to register yourself on the CLAT portal. The process of registering is very simple. You just have to enter the necessary information and have to upload a scanned copy of your photo and signature.

You have to pay the prescribed fee by an online method which is about Rs 4000/- for general and OBC candidates and Rs 3500/- for SC/ST candidates.

CLAT Syllabus and CLAT Exam pattern.

CLAT consist of 150 questions for 150 marks which means 1 mark for each question. There is a negative marking in this exam of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer. The total duration of time for solving the paper is 2 hours. All questions are of MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions) type, the candidate has to select one answer.

¸In the English language paper there will be about 450-word passage and questions will be asked in such a way that the comprehensive knowledge of the English language of a candidate can be tested. The questions from synonyms and antonyms can be asked. The level of questions will be class 12 standard. 

In Current Affairs and General Knowledge subject candidate will be given a passage of about 450 words from the news, journalistic sources etc. The question will be asked about the legal information in the passage and the other questions will be designed in such a way to test the awareness of the candidate about the legal aspect. 

In the Legal Reasoning subject, there will be again about 450 words passage in which scenarios of legal matted or public policy are discussed. The candidate has not required prior knowledge of the law to solve this paper. Candidates have to identify the rules and principles set out in the passage. 

In the Logical Reasoning subject, the candidate will be provided with a short passage of about 300 words in which the candidate has to recognise an argument and its conclusions. The candidate will have to draw the relationships and analogies, they will have to identify the contradictions and equivalence and assess the effectiveness of the argument.

In Quantitative Techniques, the candidate will be given the data in the form of graphs, charts or diagrams and the questions will be designed in such a way to understand the quantitative knowledge of the candidate and questions are asked from the 10th standard mathematical syllabus.
